Position Summary: The Massage Therapist works as a member of the interdisciplinary team working with terminally ill patients and their families.  The Massage Therapist will provide massage therapy services for assigned hospice patients, in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care. During an initial evaluation, the massage therapist will assess the patient’s strength and needs.  The Massage Therapist will organize their own schedule for making patient visits; taking into consideration: changing patient needs, team needs and meetings.   The Massage Therapist will provide therapeutic massage that creates a caring and safe environment, addresses the comfort needs of patients, and positively impacts the patients’ health status, feeling of wellness and/or quality of life. The massage therapist will attend Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) and will function as a team member, giving and receiving relevant information.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one year of clinical massage therapy experience; two years’ experience preferred
  • Experience in home health or hospice preferred
  • Currently licensed, state certified, or registered or licensed as a massage therapist in the state and in good standing with the state board and/or current certification by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB)
  • Training in geriatric massage preferred
Duties:
  • Educates hospice staff on appropriate use of the massage therapy program, encouraging referrals from all clinical staff and volunteers. 
  •  Completes massage therapy initial evaluation for clients and families referred, creates a treatment plan, and implements the plan with consultation of the IDG. 
  •  Provides massage therapy sessions to clients in accordance with plan of care. Sessions will be flexible according to the changing client needs of the moment.        
  •  Demonstrates knowledge of massage therapy research, and uses best practices in clinical interventions.
  • Incorporates the knowledge of the unique issues related to death, dying, grief and loss.
  • Ability to recognize client/family strengths and weaknesses as well as their support systems.
  • Maintains infection control procedures and reports suspected abuse/neglect.
  • Completes documentation in a timely manner, neatly, using professional terminology.
  • Maintains confidentiality about clients/families.
  • Represents the hospice agency in a professional manner at all times.
  • Is on time, neatly dressed, and organized.
  • Completes other duties as required.
